The PowerEdge 840 Server has 2 different drive cage options, the 4 x 3.5″ fixed cage and the 4 x 3.5″ Hot Plug Cage.  You’ll have to determine what cage version you have before you consider purchasing hard drives.  The fixed drives do not need a tray and the hot plug drives will require a drive tray.  After you determine what drive cage you have you’ll be able to pick the drives that fit your needs and budget.
